Larkholme Shore

Rossall Point August 1963

Just a hint of a click from the links
broke the air we barely felt
as we followed our shadows Ireland way

to an unseen tide under cauliflower clouds,
silent like monks. Our spirits sang
and they echo now, seeping up

from sea-pressed sand at slack water.
Again the gulls are mute,
gliding respect for the morning,

and the peewits pause their anthem.
